All members join as Ordinary Members (free). After three months of membership with the Association, you can upgrade to a Paying Membership ($5/year), which grants full voting rights.

No. The State Emergency Service Association of NSW Incorporated, is an independent, member-led organisation.

The NSW SES Volunteers Association (SESVA) has been the long-standing representative body. The State Emergency Service Association of NSW has been created to complement and strengthen advocacy by:

  • Representing all members of the NSW SES (volunteers and staff)
  • Actively engaging with NSW SES committees and working groups
  • Actively reviewing and providing feedback on NSW SES policy
  • Committing to full transparency, with minutes of all meetings available to members and a commitment to timely annual and financial reporting
  • Establishing area representatives and an area representation groups to ensure local voices are heard across every Zone, Unit, Cluster and State Headquarters

By joining, you strengthen our collective ability to advocate on behalf of all members, influence decision-making, and ensure the needs of all members are heard.

Members across the state have raised concerns about the current direction of representation and the lack of visible advocacy. The SESA aims to provide a trusted, respected and active voice that is united in supporting members’ interests.

Membership is open to all current NSW SES members, both volunteers and staff. There are two categories of membership:

  • Ordinary Members – free, non-voting members
  • Paying Members – after three months of Ordinary Membership, members can choose to pay a small annual fee (currently $5.00) to gain voting rights at Annual General Meetings

No. The State Emergency Service Association of NSW is not a trade union or political party. It is prohibited from taking industrial action or representing members on terms and conditions of employment. However, the State Emergency Service Association of NSW may collaborate with the Public Service Association (PSA) and other relevant bodies on issues of mutual interest.

Yes. The SESA has been formally incorporated in NSW and has received a letter of acknowledgemnet from the NSW SES.

Area Represenatives are elected by the Unit/Cluster/Zone/Business Unit they represent, elections will be triggered once 5 members from the same Unit/Cluster/Zone/Business Unit join the Association.

No. You can remain an Ordinary Member for as long as you like, noting the only difference is that you would not be entitled to voting rights within the Association at General Meetings.
