The State Emergency Service Association of NSW acknowledges the tragic events off Ballina overnight, which have claimed the lives of two volunteer crew members from Marine Rescue NSW.

On behalf of the Association, we extend our sincere condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the two volunteer crew members who lost their lives while serving their community. We also acknowledge the loss of the member of the public involved in the incident and extend our sympathies to their loved ones. We acknowledge the four crew members who survived and wish them a full and swift recovery.

This incident is a sobering reminder of the risks our emergency service personnel face, often in the most challenging and unpredictable conditions, in their commitment to protecting others.

The State Emergency Service Association of NSW stands with Marine Rescue NSW and the wider emergency services community involved in the response. We also acknowledge the efforts of local NSW SES members, including teams from Ballina, who supported NSW Police Force and partner agencies during the response.

The courage, professionalism, and dedication shown by volunteers and responders across all services reflects the very best of our emergency services community.

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy.
