July has been a busy and productive month for the State Emergency Service Association of NSW, with unit visits, our Annual General Meeting, member advocacy and preparations for the year ahead.
Connecting with members
Members of the Committee had the pleasure of visiting the Nowra Unit on 8 July and Bathurst Unit on 15 July.
These visits provide valuable opportunities for the Association to hear directly from NSW SES members, better understand local experiences and discuss the issues that matter to our membership.
We thank the members of both units for their time, hospitality and valuable contributions. We look forward to visiting more units across NSW in the coming months.
Annual General Meeting
The Association held its Annual General Meeting on 11 July.
Following the AGM, we warmly welcome Rodney and Ron to the Executive Committee as Secretary and State Headquarters Representative, respectively.
We also congratulate and welcome our newly elected Area Representatives:

Induction for our new Area Representatives will be held next week. We look forward to supporting them in their important role of connecting members with the Association.

Advocating for our members
During July, the Association provided feedback on the draft Honours and Awards Manual and made a submission to the Commissioner regarding the Significant Event Citation.
Providing constructive feedback and representing members’ experiences and perspectives are important parts of Association’s work. We will continue advocating on matters affecting NSW SES members across the state.

Recognising the NSW SES RESCA nominees
The Association congratulates the NSW SES members nominated in the 2026 Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA):

The winner of the NSW SES category and overall volunteer category will be announced on 25 July. We wish Jean, Richard and Sharon the very best of luck and thank them for their outstanding service to their communities.
State Disaster Rescue Challenge
This weekend, the Association will attend the State Disaster Rescue Challenge.
We look forward to meeting and engaging with members from across NSW as participating teams challenge their skills and knowledge. Good luck to everyone taking part!
Planning for the year ahead
The Executive Committee is preparing for its first meeting of 2026/2027, which will be held in late August.
The meeting will include a strategic planning day focused on developing the Association’s strategic plan and calendar for the coming year. This work will help establish clear priorities and guide the Association’s activities throughout 2026/2027.
